Drawings with Artist's Catalogue Numbers between 604 and 621
These are some of the original drawings made as illustrations for a book of walks called Where Wiltshire meets Somerset by Roger Jones, which was published in 1982. The book is still in print and is available from the publisher at www.ex-librisbooks.co.uk
The drawings were all made using a special very black pencil, because this was best suited to reproduction by half-toning, the technique then in use. They were all framed the same way for exhibition, so only one full frame is shown here as an example.
Vallis Vale Quarry
Artist's Catalogue No: 604
Pencil
Image size 14.3 x 20.9 cms
£295
Note from the Artist: These illustrations were for a book of walks, and the author was keen that readers should see things of interest along the way, such as this quarry with its noted unconformity - a line between two layers of rock running in different directions.

Farleigh Hungerford Castle
Artist's Catalogue No: 607
Pencil
Image size 28.6 x 19.7 cms
£795
Note from the Artist: I could not possibly resist drawing a castle on one of the walks. This castle is odd in that it was built quite near the bottom of a valley and is overlooked by higher ground well within bowshot.

Granary at Thoulstone
Artist's Catalogue No: 609
Pencil
Image size 14.6 x 20.9 cms
£495
Note from the Artist: Staddle stones are now so often seen as ornaments in gardens that it was really nice to see some still in use for their original purpose. Old wooden farm buildings are a rare survival.

Steeple Ashton
Artist's Catalogue No: 610
Pencil
Image size 17.1 x 25.4 cms
£895
Note from the Artist: A village with a "lock-up", typical of this part of Wiltshire. The small building is a miniature prison for one or perhaps two people, usually used to detain drunks until they had sobered up.
